Basil is a tomatoes best friend. They grow well together and enhance your tomatoes flavour!
But…
It always seem so much effort to grow from seed (at least for me it does!) this guide shows you the easy way to have basil all summer through for only a couple of quid.
Step 1
Buy one or two potted basil plants from local supermarket
Step 2
Split each potted basil plant into 2 or 3 pots larger than the one from the shop and water well
Step 3
That’s it, put them in a sunny spot like a window in the kitchen or outside somewhere fairly sunny but sheltered. The basil will continue to grow from each of these new plants, leaving you to enjoy basil all summer!
Helpful tip
Place them in and around your tomatoes to boost their flavour. For other benefits of companion planting, see this post Companion planting for tomatoes
